The west of Ireland is synonymous with Irish heritage and cultural trails that unravel tails of our ancestors past, but in recent years those with an adventurous spirit have discovered natures playground embedded in the landscape of the Wild Atlantic Way.
Westport, a town in county Mayo, is the perfect landing ground for those hoping to unleash their inner outdoorsman and has you covered when it comes to outdoor sporting activities, from horseback riding along picturesque beach treks, a group cycling excursion or kayaking in one of the many surrounding lakes.
Those of you with a trailblazer heart will also be glad to hear that Westport is the ideal location to undertake the infamous climb of Croagh Patrick, where it has been reported that this cultural and hiking enthusiast landmark welcomes about 100,000 people per year. It is by no means an easy undertaking, but the views from along this trail make every blister earned worthwhile.
If you’re not inspired by the walking routes Westport has to offer, you’re in luck, as there are about eleven lakes within a leisurely drive of Westport. Many of these lakes are known for being a fisherman’s friend hosting an abundance of course water fish, in the form of bream and roach, but they also host water sport activities, such as wake boarding, kite surfing, sailing and paddle boarding. We would recommend that you have a good centre of balance when undertaking these sports and in the absence of a centre of gravity, a great sense of humour would work too.
There are some links below for you to do some virtual exploring to see if you are willing to unleash your inner adventurer. The good news is that after a long day of exploring, with Westport Centre Apartments, you have the ideal resting place to regroup.
