It’s Five O’clock Somewhere:
To say Westport town offers a bustling nightlife and social setting would be an understatement. The town is one of the few in the country of Ireland that could be deemed enigmatic in the sense that it caters for those who consider Westport ‘home’ and for tourists who call it ‘home for the night.’ This unique blend of home birds and tourists have created a town exploding with options, from traditional pubs, snug area included to modern bar settings offering the latest cocktail or flaming shot.
We are also very lucky that in the town of Westport we have some exceptional restaurants right at our fingertips and we are spoiled for choice here too. We have restaurants that offer you the classic stew; most welcome after an afternoon at the lakes, and eateries that cater for a palette craving something more akin to gourmet cuisine.
If you have made the decision to stay with us at Westport Centre Apartments, we thought we would take some of the hard work out of deciding where to go for you and recommend some of our favourite haunts.
Our recommended bars:
For a great cocktail there is no place better than Henehan’s Late Bar. It is located on Bridge Street, so a great location for you to visit when you are staying in the apartments.
For a pub with a great social setting, but falls more into the ‘traditional’ category, you have to take a stop into Cosy Joe’s. Its name is not deceiving and is in fact very cosy. It can get busy in the evenings though, so if you’re looking for a seat, try and get there earlier in the night.
And of course, we do have to mention Gallery, a beautiful wine bar. It offers an Instagram worthy setting, but also has some of the best wine options Westport has to offer. It also hosts live entertainment and always draws in a crowd.
Our recommended restaurants:
If your looking for a restaurant that caters for brunch, lunch, and dinner, you have to go to Creel. The menu can get a bit inventive at times, but you can always find a few known favourites there too.
Sol Rio is the place to go if you are craving Mediterranean style cuisine. The menu and the food offerings are very fresh. It can be difficult at times to get a table though, so be sure to ring ahead, especially if you are hoping to seat a larger group.
We couldn’t finish this recommendation list without mentioning Sage. This is one of the more stylish restaurants that Westport has to offer. The create beautiful meals from fresh foraged produce from the surrounding area. Their menu is always changing and the aromas that the kitchen alone creates is enough to pull at any foodies heartstrings.
